Homemade Gin

Well confession time, Gin is my preferred ‘poison’ and as I write this Cyndie informs me it is National G&T Day today (10/19/22).

Having recently received some homemade Gin from our past President Amy Schiavone, I thought I would have a ‘crack at it’. I made it and served it to my lady’s group as well as my garden club and it has met with approval thus I share with you below the recipe I made:

1 bottle of Titos Vodka (750ml)

2 TB juniper berries

1 tsp coriander seeds

2 cardamom pods

2 peppercorns

2 TB fennel seed

2 strips of fresh lemon peel

A pinch of rose petals

With a mortar and pestle roughly grind up the juniper berries, coriander seeds, cardamom pods, and peppercorns. Add these ingredients to the bottle of Vodka and leave in a cool dry dark place for 24 hours.

Add the fresh lemon peel and the fennel (roughly ground) and let stand in a cool dry dark place for another 24 hours (shaking the bottle just once)

Decant through a coffee filter into a sterilized bottle of your choosing. It will be brownish/brackish in appearance. If you want to further filer/decant you could but I did not. Serve your preferred customary measure of YOUR Gin in a whiskey glass with 3 cubes of ice, a splash or two of Fever Tree tonic and a slice of lime. CHEERS!
