The Potomac Unit

The Potomac Unit is a chapter of the Herb Society of America that is centered around Washington DC’s Potomac River. Drawing members from DC, Maryland, and Virginia, the Potomac Unit is dedicated to promoting the knowledge, use, and delight of herbs through educational programs, research and sharing the experience of its members.

The Potomac Unit supports:

  • The National Herb Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum and

  • The Herb Garden at the National Library of Medicine

Herb lovers and the herb-curious are welcome to join us as we cultivate herbs, knowledge, and community.

The Herb Society of America

2024 Herb of the Year: Yarrow (Achillea)



 

Yarrow is a perennial in the Asteraceae (daisy) family. It was Introduced to America from Europe in colonial times.  It can also be used in salads, soups, and sauces. It is also a great to add to your butterfly garden
